Legal and Guidance Update October 2024

What ISO Compliance Obligations are new in October 2024

In October, we sent out a full update to our subscribed users, including Primary and Secondary legislation. Of particular interest was the following:

The Internet Television Equipment Regulations 2024

The Internet Television Equipment Regulations 2024 establish standards for internet-connected televisions in the UK, focusing on energy efficiency, data protection, accessibility, and consumer information. These regulations require that such devices minimise energy use, secure user data, are accessible to people with disabilities, and provide clear product details regarding their environmental impact and usability features. The aim is to ensure these devices are safe, environmentally friendly, and accessible while keeping consumers well-informed.

The Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (Scotland) Regulations 2024

The Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (Scotland) Regulations 2024 address the environmental impact of disposable vaping devices by banning their sale and manufacture, promoting recycling through mandatory take-back schemes, and setting product design standards for easier recycling. These regulations aim to reduce waste and pollution from single-use vapes, ensuring products are environmentally sustainable and informing consumers through clear labelling about recyclability and disposal practices.

The Seafarers’ Wages Regulations 2024

The Seafarers’ Wages Regulations 2024 ensure fair compensation for seafarers working on UK-registered vessels by setting a minimum wage standard, requiring transparent and detailed wage statements, and mandating timely monthly payments. The regulations include a robust mechanism for resolving wage disputes and require electronic wage payments to facilitate prompt and secure transactions. These measures aim to protect seafarers from wage exploitation and improve their working conditions globally.
