Legal and Guidance Update January 2025
What ISO Compliance Obligations are new in January 2025
To start things off, we as the team at Spedan and the ISO Compliance Register would like to wish you a very happy and successful new year. We hope we can continue assisting you in all your auditing and legal compliance needs going into 2025 and beyond.
In January, we sent out a full update to our subscribed users, including Primary and Secondary legislation. Of particular interest was the following:
The Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (Wales) Regulations 2024
The Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (Wales) Regulations 2024 set forth measures to mitigate the environmental impact of disposable vaping products. These regulations restrict the sale and distribution of single-use vapes to reduce waste and encourage the use of more sustainable alternatives. Key provisions include guidelines on the manufacture and disposal of these products, aimed at decreasing the volume of non-biodegradable waste entering landfills and promoting recycling efforts. The goal is to foster environmental responsibility within the vaping industry and among consumers.
The Regulated Roles (Prohibitions and Requirements) (Scotland) Regulations 2024
The Regulated Roles (Prohibitions and Requirements) (Scotland) Regulations 2024 establish criteria and restrictions for individuals in positions that involve working with vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, in Scotland. These regulations define specific roles that are regulated, set out the eligibility criteria for those roles, and list the prohibitions that prevent certain individuals from holding these positions. The aim is to safeguard vulnerable populations by ensuring that only suitable candidates are entrusted with their care and supervision, enhancing safety and protection standards across various sectors.
The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations 2024
The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations 2024 enhance the accountability of producers in managing the environmental impact of their packaging. These regulations require businesses to minimise packaging waste, promote recycling, and contribute financially to the costs of collecting and processing their packaging waste. Key elements include setting recycling targets, mandating reporting on packaging volumes and materials, and incentivising the use of recyclable and reusable materials. The aim is to reduce the environmental footprint of packaging waste and drive the shift towards a circular economy.
