Legal and Guidance Update December 2024

What ISO Compliance Obligations are new in December 2024

In December, we sent out a full update to our subscribed users, including Primary and Secondary legislation. Of particular interest was the following:

The Aviation Safety (Amendment) Regulations 2024

The Aviation Safety (Amendment) Regulations 2024 update the existing regulations governing aviation safety standards in the UK. These amendments introduce enhanced safety protocols, update certification requirements for aircraft and personnel, and incorporate the latest international aviation safety standards. The regulations also expand the scope of safety oversight to include emerging technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and new operational practices. The aim is to ensure the continued safety and security of aviation operations, adapting to new challenges and technologies in the industry, and maintaining alignment with global safety practices.

The Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (England) Regulations 2024

The Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (England) Regulations 2024 establish new standards and controls for the manufacture, sale, and disposal of single-use vapes. These regulations are designed to address the environmental impact of disposable vaping products by implementing measures such as restrictions on certain materials, requirements for recyclability, and guidelines for proper disposal. The aim is to reduce waste and pollution associated with these products, promoting more sustainable practices in the vaping industry and encouraging the use of reusable alternatives.

The International Waste Shipments (Amendment) Regulations 2024

The International Waste Shipments (Amendment) Regulations 2024 update the rules governing the transboundary movement of waste. These amendments aim to enhance environmental protection and compliance with international obligations by tightening controls on the export, import, and transit of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The regulations introduce stricter documentation and reporting requirements, establish more rigorous consent procedures for receiving countries, and increase penalties for non-compliance. The aim is to ensure that waste shipments are managed responsibly, minimising their impact on the environment and human health.
